Re: sun roof
Hi Dex, If your sun roof is like my ‘37 saloon, you will find it has a drain at each corner. The front pipes go down inside the A pillar and exit inside the sill. A dreadful design, much like 1960s Austin 1100s. The result is that the sills rot badly. I extended the rubber pipes on mine so that they...

Re: Fuel pump/ fuel starvation
Hi Dex, It really does sound as though you are encountering all the usual old car ailments with your Rover! Take heart though; once you have been through all the servicing, brakes, carburation, electrics and tuning you will have a good reliable classic that you know inside out. Many of us have been ...

Re: Rewire
Dex, It sounds as though your wiring has got into a bit of a muddle. However, unlike a modern car, the loom on your car is really very straight forward so there is no reason to panic. Clearly, you have a short circuit that is causing wires to over heat and smoke, so you must have put something in th...

Re: Rover 14 gearbox
Just had a look at my parts book and an old workshop manual. Suggest you get latest copy of both to help puzzle through any concerns you have. My parts book only goes up to 1938 because my cars are 36 & 37 models. However, what it does reveal is that the part numbers for the gears are the same for a...

Re: Rover 14 gearbox
I’m pretty sure that the gearbox details are included in the Rover Parts Book. I don’t have mine to hand, but I seem to recall the gearbox part numbers are shown as variants against each model so it’s a matter of comparing the numbers on the boxes with the listing. That said, I think Rover used what...

Re: front windows
Hi Dex, If it’s the same as my ‘37 saloon, I seem to recall that the metal part that the mechanism wheels run in remains stuck to the glass and that the mechanism itself can be removed, leaving the glass in situ. Obviously you will need to hold the glass up when you do this to prevent it dropping. I...

Re: service
Dex, The oil 'filter' is a gauze sleeve that fixes over the pick-up from the oil pump in the sump. It is accessed from the off side of the sump - a large brass hexagonal head. Once unscrewed from the sump it should be washed in paraffin or petrol, then refitted before filling the engine with oil. Th...

Re: New old stock
Hi Dex, Have you taken the box out yet? If so, it is pretty straight forward to take the top off and investigate why it is seized. Given, the limited availability of replacements it would certainly be worth a look. These are my initial thoughts: All that really exists within the box is the worm driv...

Re: Help Bodyshop needed
Rob, Bad luck on that. It must be every Classic owners worst nightmare to suffer body damage like you have. However, while I don’t have any experience of similar repairs, a quick look on the Internet reveals a number of expert places to get ash frame and aluminium bodywork rebuilt. Sowerby Ash Frami...

Re: p2 steering box
I think Rover’s intention was to make the angle of the steering column adjustable. As such, the box swivels a little about the axis of the through mounting bolt and the upper column support behind the dashboard can be adjusted. However, in practice, I doubt anyone has ever done that throughout the l...
