Re: Restoration of Rover 10, 1947

Many thanks to yourself, Luli. I am still working hard each Winter to restore the body on Lucy, my 1939 '10 (1940 Model Year) and although a good amount of the work is behind me, the detail on many of the steel bodywork fixtures is still elusive - long disappeared from the frame on my car! It is onl...

Re: P2 headlamp pattern

Amen to that! There are some excellent all-in-one 7" units available for vehicles such as Defender, and they neatly circumvent the problem by being a total-swap for the headlamp shell, etc. etc. I even have a set on my own Defender as a research tool for light sources. However, I found that some of ...

Re: P2 headlamp pattern

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but a thought of mine (or two) on LED's in headlamps; Firstly, they are fantastic, and have transformed many a weak 7" Defender unit into something fit for the 21st Century. They produce a considerable improvement in light output, often focus correctly throu...

Re: Leaf spring shimming and setting

Luli, I used that particular picture, as it gives the best view of the arrangement of the washers as-found, however I can confirm that this was also the same at the shackle-to-chassis pin arrangement to the rear of the rear spring. When I measured the washers, it appeared that they had all started-o...

I've struggled with Photobucket for the last few days, but I hope the following link works -it should illustrate what I speak-of;

Re: Leaf spring shimming and setting

Rob, Yes, I had misspelled the Tufnol trade name for the simple reason that my spell-checker does not recognise it, but does recognise Tufnell as a place-name! So apologies are due to all, especially those Brummies that have made this material for so long - hence the reason I assumed (being the Moth...

Re: Leaf spring shimming and setting

That's very interesting, Luli. Thank-you for the information. I think I would have to take issue with The Motor Trader regarding the ground-faced-washers, as they appear to be suggesting that the washers are not clamped securely to the shackle pin shoulder by the castellated nut. To allow the washer...

Leaf spring shimming and setting

Is there a guide available to the correct method by which the spring shackle-plates should be shimmed and packed (for the P2)? During the recent strip and inspection of the rear leaf-springs on my 1939 '10, it was clear that excess lateral motion had been there for some time prior to the car coming ...

Re: Helen Street

Thanks for that information Mike, it's fascinating to delve into these things. It might also explain why the gas-welding of the body components is so poor; unlike most of the constructional methods that Rover has used over the years, the assembly of the body panels is accurate (jigged) but the tacki...

Re: Helen Street

Has anyone got any information of the production line and assembly techniques from Helen Street? During the restoration of my 1939 10, it is apparent that there are oddities under the vehicle that could be best explained by assembly aids. One such oddity is the use of a colour paint on the LH chassi...
