Re: Oils ain't Oils
I put SAE20/50 multigrade in the engine of my 1935 12hp s/s, and SAE40 in the gearbox and back axle. My local vintage tractor parts dealer (The Old 20 Parts Company) supplies Exol brand in 25 litre plastic containers for about £40. It seems to be of excellent quality, and for part of its manufacturi...

Re: 1935 10 Air filter
I have a 1935 (1936 model) 12hp sports saloon. The carburettor air cleaner/silencer is supposed to be identical on the 10 and 12 saloons for 1935/36 (part no. 01270 in the parts catalogue) and on my car it is a conventional Smiths oil-wetted gauze device which clamps (none too tightly) to the carbur...

Re: 1936 front wheel bearings
Mike, Thanks for your help. I managed to get a correct set of bearings (SKF/Timken) and oil (grease?) seals from the local bearing suppliers (Derby Bearings). I got my local garage to press out the old outer races from the hub and fit the new races, also the larger inner bearing + seal. I was rather...

Short starting handle
I need a short type starting handle for a 1936 12hp sports saloon.
I have a long starting handle and bumper blade guide to swap.
Regards,
Richard

Starting handles
My 1936 12hp s/s came with a long starting handle: the car was fitted with a guide above the front bumper and a cast guide fitted to the front chassis cross-member. The handle didn't align with the dog on the engine: I removed the chassis guide and now I can turn the engine over slowly on the handle...

1936 front wheel bearings
My 1936 12hp s/s front wheel bearings need replacing. Can anyone tell me whether P4 taper roller bearings fit this model? If so, the JR Wadhams complete kit looks a good buy. Also, I tried to fit a modern rubber-cased replacement oil (grease) seal, and was unable (with hand tools and a vice) to fit ...
