Just about to do an oil change on the 14. I'm using Halfords Classic Car 20W50. I want to change the gearbox and diff oil too. What oil should I use in these? Thanks.

Re: Fuel problems

As I said mine was working fine like this last year so I am loathe to change the pump until I have ruled out everything else. And thankfully I seem to have fixed it!! :) I replaced all the spring clips with jubilee clips and used PTFE tape on all the unions and hey-presto it's running perfectly. No ...

Re: Fuel problems

Blimey! Thanks for the info Luli. Thing is it worked OK all last year. I did 3000 miles and until recently it was OK. Don't really fancy moving it to the back so I suppose I best replace it with a suitable sucker.

Re: Fuel problems

OK found out that pump is a Webcon AU2635 low pressure 2.5-4.5 psi. Picture below. I guess the bit on the bottom is a filter. http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc225/alfaleather/IMG_3927_zpskt3ttedi.jpg Also below is a picture of the 'flow regulator'. I've seen these on other old cars. All this was...

Re: Fuel problems

Not sure what my pump is as I painted it black! It is on the bulkhead under the bonnet on the right-hand side near where the throttle pedal mechanism comes through. There is some kind of flow regulator between it and the carb that was fitted by a previous owner.

Re: Fuel problems

Its been working fine with the clear plastic filter up until now. I've checked all the unions. I've used PTFE tape throughout. I'm beginning to think it might be the electric pump. Anyone got a suggestion as to which pump would be best if I was to replace it?

Re: Fuel problems

That's pretty much want I did. Although there was no mesh filter.

Re: Fuel problems

I removed the valve and the suction pipes from the car and stuck it in bowl of water. I sealed up each pipe it turn (with kids plasticine) and blew down the openings. No air bubbles. The inline filter (in the engine bay) is transparent and I think I can see air bubbles entering it from the fuel pipe...

Re: Fuel problems

Wow there's a lot of information there. So a leak in the suction pipes could be the cause. A leak near the to as you suggest would mean that the pum is drawing air through through the system instead of fuel. Are replacements available?
