Re: Timing, points gap etc.

Thanks, I will make up something on those lines. I had a condenser fail back in the 60s on a three year old MG1100. I was stymied because I was getting a spark at the plug, but under any load the engine died! The man in a yellow van diagnosed it correctly, fitted a new condenser….job done! I do have...

Re: Timing, points gap etc.

Certainly a possibility. My distributor is a Lucas"E90" ie an exchange unit. Unused until I bought it a couple of years ago. It is the original pattern with the condenser fixed to the base plate. How do you test a condenser? If it is faulty I could probably rig up a condenser outside the distributor...

Re: Timing, points gap etc.

Re the petrol reserve Four Ashes Garage near Stratford remanufacture there units (mostly for Aston Martins) Gulp! They are not easy people to deal with sometimes...I wanted the solenoid rewinding, but had to go the whole hog & have my unit rebuilt. I have yet to fit it, but hope it will work. They m...

Re: Timing, points gap etc.

This comes under the "etc" part of this thread! Why should a coil suddenly start overheating? My 77 year old coil got very hot and didn't make much spark at the plugs causing a failure to proceed... A replacement modern one (non ballasted) was tie wrapped to it, connected up and sparks were restored...

Re: P2 tourer at Brightwells

The #58 car (& #110) will be at MK over the weekend. 110 had a problem with slow running due to a blocked Slow running jet, but was made worse by a very feeble spark. Fortunately it appears to have been the 80 year old coil, as a replacement coil seems to have done the trick and cured the backfire o...

Trim Information

I have started on the trim on #58 tourer now that the doors fit properly and most things work! I have decided to save everything that I can possible from the original (even the overpainted fabric) . In brief the carpets are totally gone apart from the toe board and the section under the back seat. T...

Re: Hand tools P2 etc

I now have a complete tool tray, thanks to the bay of E! Two are even correctly branded.
This car came with two jacks…one with a handle to wind it up/down,, the other uses the (sloppy fit) wheelbrace
Anyone know which is correct for 1947? I imagine it is the wheelbrace version.

Re: P3 75 floor panel fixing

For what it is worth...My P2 floor screws are all csk1/4 26 BSF x1" or 1.1/4" cone pointed. The many missing dished floor board washers I have made up from " Tile/Roof-nail washers" ! They have a 5mm hole, easily opened up to take the 1/4" screw. Available by weight on e-bay. 225grammes was enough, ...

Re: Hand tools P2 etc

A plug spanner is listed separately, but it does seem logical…however a long tubular plug spanner is not suitable for removing plug no 4 as it catches on stuff on the bulkhead on my car! Ref. Manufacturers, my post isa bit misleading in that Snail etc I think only made/ branded the open end spanners...

Re: Hand tools P2 etc

Sounds logical…
“Someone” will surely know about the tubular one!
I think they were mostly made by Snail, but I think Superslim also were used, but I may be mistaken
