Re: Shock absorbers
Thanks Luli. My tyres are pretty old and should be replaced before I do any serious motoring and Radials are perhaps the way to go. My steering is quite direct an no discernable play on joints and king pins (working lubrication system!...well lots of oil evident!)

Re: King pins and thermostats and fuel
All back together now! After reassembly and initial tightening there was a substantial leak from the thermostat housing so I retightened the nuts some more, leak was less. I was nervous about tightening them too much (many bad experiences with Austin seven studs...) but I persevered using the 1/4BSW...

Re: Shock absorbers
Interesting Luli. Do you have any drawings for the dimensions of the brackets etc? No point in reinventing the wheel! I read many of your chapters yesterday via the Hebrew / English translation of course. I am intrigued that the "name" as translated for the Tourer comes through as "Terrorist"! I hop...

Re: Fuel not shutting off (occasionally)
All cleaned & put back (plenty of red silt at the bottom of the bowl, but nothing to block a jet nor valve). However it still overflowed. The leak appeared to come from the throttle spindle...the easiest route I imagine. I see there have been previous discussions about fuel height levels When i took...

Fuel not shutting off (occasionally)
My 12 Tourer Solex 30FA1 ..LK61 occasionally suffers from the problem of the needle valve :? not shutting off the fuel. It is a 1.5 and the float is 26GR (?) I have an SU pump (no idea which model/pressure). The needle valve passes the suck /blow test! Taking apart, cleaning, putting back to see wha...

Shock absorbers
I have the small, two vertical piston pattern fitted on my 1947 tourer. Without removing them I cannot see the identification numbers so I don't know if they are an original fitment, but certainly the O/S Front is leaky and passed its best. When new these shocks were valved to suit the end use, but ...

Fuel pumps & heaters
My tourer (#110) has an SU pump - were the tourers classed as "export" models? It is fitted inside the car, about where the heater might have been. Is it supposed to be there? If not where should it go? Not shown in the exploded diagrams. I would quite like to reinstate a heater (anyone got one for ...

Re: King pins and thermostats and fuel
Back to thermostats! It all came apart more easily than I expected! A lot of Hylomar down the vertical face of the alloy top housing...and gloopy bits inside! No sign of a thermostat nor part no 108! my new stat has a shroud that I think replaces the function of the restrictor (108), I have a 1950's...

Re: Gearbox and rear axle oil
Tony, Helpful advice. I recently rewired two 20's & an early 30's Austin Sevens. The 20's had "armoured" cables & the 30's on I cheated & used "modern" plastic armoured cable (no risk of shorting against the cover! Soldered joints every time, not crimped. I won't be going down the Dynamotor route no...
