It’s a while since I did this job on my P2, but I’m sure the screws are 1/4BSF. So it would be reasonable to expect the same on P3’s as you suggest. No knowing what previous repairers have done I suppose. Have you tried running a 1/4BSF tap into the captive nuts?
Hope that helps, DaveM

Re: Recent travels
Hello David I think this is the "official" position of the earthing strap as shown in the lower left of the photo. The chassis end of the strap is under one of the bolts securing the engine mount cradle to the chassis. Obviously from the electrical point of view you can put the strap in any convenie...

Re: P1 Steering box refurbishment
Hi Tony ICS rebuilt the steering box for my 1947 12 several years ago and I'm very pleased with the result. I believe their modification was originally developed for early Land Rovers which use a box similar to the 10/12hp cars, and involves replacing the nut and worm with hardened steel items. Hope...

Re: 1939 P2 Engine Number
Hello The engine in my car (1947) has no number either. There is a small engine-number plate mounted with the chassis number plate which states the engine number the same as the chassis number. However the V5 gives a different number for the engine. I've no idea how many times the engine may have be...

Re: Engine Mounting replacement 12 tourer
David - some good news and some less good! First, yes it is possible to replace the rubbers in situ - I did it 2 or 3 years ago. Second, as it was a while ago, I can't remember exactly what I did - must keep better records in future! However, looking at the car now, I reckon I probably removed the L...

Re: Ignition timing
David, some thoughts on your questions:- 1 - I think the set-up is bound to be a bit sloppy - mine has possibly 5 degrees of movement, but it seems to work OK. 2 - I've had a look at the Instruction Manual for 1947 models (first time in ages) and it recommends setting the timing with the octane sele...

10 thou tappet clearance is correct for 1938-47 engines. 5 thou applies to earlier cars.

Re: Floor panels
Floor boards are secured by 1/4 BSF countersunk head screws with floorboard washer underneath - no need to countersink. The edge of the floorboards can be cut away to fit round the bolts on the transmission tunnel. Boards don’t need to be 3/4 - I think I used 10 or 12mm and they’re still going stron...
